God gave us His Word…and that’s good enough.

“1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 ¶ And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (Joh 1:1-5 AV)

Love God’s Word

The human soul is trusting by nature. When man was created, he looked to the infinite supply of the Father. There was nothing that man could need that God could not provide. God’s Jehovah Jirah (provider) nature continues to this day to those who are washed in the blood of the Lamb.

It is in the corruption of the world that skepticism finds its most fertile soil. In it we sow seeds of unbelief that blossom and flower into the thorny rose of striving. Now I am not going to launch an assault on self-help courses and materials here, but I am going to digress for a moment as to where I believe they originated. When we have no one bigger than ourselves to trust, we begin to marinate ourselves in things that we believe will make us more equipped to take on life. While many times, these efforts prove to be a positive force in making it through this world, it is not God’s plan. Because it is only a patch, the “fix” is short-lived and it’s on to the next fad. We have become so obsessed with these “hole plugs” that he has even dragged them into the realm of the church. God’s Word clearly explains that it is not in these things where we will find our answers.

“1 ¶ Oh, that you would bear with me in a little folly––and indeed you do bear with me. 2 For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present [you as] a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or [if] you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted––you may well put up with it!” (2Co 11:1-4 NKJV)

Clearly, the provisions of man have become “another Jesus”. Paul warns us that through the simplicity of the Gospel message we risk believing that “the answer just couldn’t be that simple”. So we are off and running for a way to make the trip easier by coming up with something on our own.

Learn God’s Word

We are fearfully and wondrously made in the image and likeness of God. (Psalm 139:14) As children, we watch and aspirate the characteristics of our earthly parents. We observe their movements, what makes them laugh, what makes them cry. When we grow and become parents, we become acutely aware that the habits and the lives we live before our children are ever being observed by those precious little ones. That’s why if we smoke, there’s a pretty good shot one of our kids will pick up the habit. If we use “colorful language”, it’s a pretty good bet that one of our kids will be making sailors blush one day. That process is called “learning”. Learning is something we all do. We learn from who we are around. We learn from the stimuli that surrounds us. God’s Word allows us to “be around” the Father. It gives us insight into his personality. His Word tells us repeatedly of his love for us and his wonderful plans for our lives.

One of the simplest things in the whole of the Kingdom of God is right before us. In the past, churches have placed such an esoteric spin on understanding and decoding the passages within the scriptures that it has intimidated many a believer into simply sitting still and being preached to rather than a more aggressive stance of grabbing hold of the Bible and devouring its goodness.

In his second letter to the church at Corinth, Paul admonishes believers to passionately seek God.

“9 Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, 10 who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver [us], 11 you also helping together in prayer for us, that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the gift [granted] to us through many. 12 ¶ For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you. 13 For we are not writing any other things to you than what you read or understand. Now I trust you will understand, even to the end” (2Co 1:9-13 NKJV)

There are no hidden messages, no need for a decoder ring, no conspiracy to keep the truth from the masses. There are not any other things other than what we read and understand…simple things.

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:14

Enjoying the holidays is really not all that hard. We let the pressures of shopping and the grind of celebration schedules corner us into becoming more like a grumpy old grinch rather than a jolly old elf. Here is the secret: party with the angels. Luke chapter two tells us that while the shepherds were down below freaking out, the angels were up above giving glory to God and announcing his wonderful plan for our world. This Christmas, keep your head in the heavenly realm. Angels are party animals. They hang with God all day! You will not find a depressed angel or a heavenly host singing funeral dirges. Just remember, party with the angels. Now, that is truly keeping Christ in your Christmas!

Lord, teach me to party with the angels. Help me to set my spirit upon things above to effectively deal with problems here down below. Help me understand that man has no answers, only temporary fixes. Let Your Holy Spirit fill me with the sound of heaven. Let me live in the realms of your glory. Let me come to the party that you have prepared for me as a joint heir with Christ.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

Part of enjoying the holidays is seeing all of the bright colors and glowing lights that announce the season’s arrival. I once had a family in my church that left their Christmas lights up all year long. I inquired why and the husband replied, “all we have to do at Christmas time is plug them in.” What good are decorations if they are not displayed for all to see? While it is not practical to light up or leave up our Christmas decorations all year, it is a good thing to keep our lives decorated with the love of God year around. Don’t let your light so shine only on Sundays or holidays. Deck the halls three hundred sixty five days a year and keep your decorations up and plugged in. The world will be a brighter place.

God in heaven, I know that Your Word tells me that a city on a hill cannot be hidden. Make me that shining light that leads others out of the hectic existence of this life and into the wonder of your presence. Anoint me with an extra measure of boldness that I may become a walking testimony of your goodness and love, in Jesus name, amen.

O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Psalm 105:1

While some of us are still rubbing our bellies from frozen treats leftover from Thanksgiving, we must also search our hearts for the leftovers of Thanksgiving itself, being a thankful heart that prepares us for the most wonderful time of year; when we celebrate the coming of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Our lives move so fast these days, that Thanksgiving has become little more than the day before black Friday to some. Let me challenge you this day to stop and give thanks to God for his goodness and his mercy. As we begin our trek toward Christmas, let thankfulness and gratitude be our shopping buddies. With thanksgiving in our hearts and the joy of Christmas on our lips, the yuletide season is sure to be a brighter one.

Lord, thank you for the mercy and grace you have shown us through your only son, Jesus. Help me carry out my mission of life, ever mindful of a grateful heart for all you have done for me, amen.

The Lost Art of Waiting

“4 And being assembled together with [them], He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” [He said], “you have heard from Me; 5 “for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”” (Ac 1:4-5 NKJV)

Have you ever thought about that day in the upper room? I am certain that it was a swirling vat of emotions. They all came out to play. Anticipation ruled the day wondering exactly what Jesus was talking about. Envy and jealousy made their appearance each wanting to get its share of this gifting. Desire was also present. Those who loved and served the Lord while he walked this planet came, so longing for even a whiff of His sweet fragrance. And I am sure doubt made it to the scene, never missing an opportunity to sow strife and break down hope in others. What was not there were probably three quarters of the people who received an invitation to the event. They were the ones who grumbled, “I don’t have time for this”. And others who cheerfully chirped, “Well, if you are going, call me if anything happens and I’ll come down.”

Jesus did not force anyone to go. Those who received the instructions knew the drill. The upper room was not for the light duty follower, it was custom designed for those who were willing to wait. A scripture that always comes to mind whenever I ponder the events at the upper room during Pentecost is Isaiah 40:31, “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Renewed Strength is for the waiter. Endurance is for the waiter. Soaring with the eagles is for the waiter. Those who wait shall renew their strength. That grouping of words there in Isaiah 40:31 (they that wait upon) is Strong’s Hebrew dictionary word qâvâh (kaw-vaw’) which is a primitive root; to bind together (perhaps by twisting), that is, collect; (figuratively) to expect: – gather (together), look, patiently, tarry, wait (for, on, upon). This prophetic word from Isaiah was almost the theme song for what happened in the upper room.

Scripture was so focused upon waiting. God’s word continually stressed the importance of being willing to wait for his will. We were shown the value of our willingness to sit at the feet of Jesus and just experience his love and mercy. From Isaac’s birth late in the lives of Abraham and Sarah to the lessons learned at the home of Mary and Martha, God has always esteemed patience as one of the qualities he seeks in his servants.

August 2, 2008 – Saturday

WE NEED ANOTHER TEA PARTY
Category: Life

I have never been one who was considered to be, even in the slightest, political in nature.
Up until the events of September 11, 2001, I led a pretty accepting life. I was accepting of what was handed me by much of the news media, much of religion, and much of our government. Something happened to me on that fateful day when I watched two planes take down symbols of American Freedom along with thousands of human lives. I began to question in my heart about what we have done and what we are doing as a nation, a people. I believe that not only me, but millions of Americans began to look at their heritage in a whole new and sobering way. Now as a pastor, I am not allowed by federal law to use my pulpit to voice political opinion. There are churches in this country that have actually lost their tax exempt status for doing just that. But today, I am speaking about this as private citizen and taxpayer, Larry. And what I have to say is simple and plain. THIS COUNTRY NEEDS ANOTHER TEA PARTY.

The New Governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal recently sent out a letter to public servants involved in all levels of Louisiana government. He very respectfully requested those people to submit information about their income, business involvement, and other pertinent facts that are important to know from any politician. And if a politician has the best interest of his constituency in mind, it seems he or she would happily comply. It was alarming to see the response with which the governor was met. Some took the request as an insult, others became defensive, and some just went along with it. What was shocking was the number that simply sent letters of resignation to the governor. When Governor Jindal was elected to office, he promised the people of Louisiana a new day. He made a commitment to an end of political corruption in our state. After seeing the good results of one honest man, I am encouraged and now know it is possible. This should cause us to think, If Louisiana can change, so can our whole nation. It is time we stand against old line political causes and crybaby agendas from wealthy corporations and lobby groups.
Have we not learned that we do not control those people we send to congress? The great and wondrous promises they make to us on Election Day are sold to those who offer the perks of power at move in day on Capitol Hill. While we pay nearly four dollars a gallon for gas and listen to the rhetoric of Al Gore’s rebuke about ecology, he flies from city to city in one of the most gas guzzling private jets ever produced. While half of Hollywood reproves the working force of this nation for trying to stay cool in their three bedroom two bath tract home, they lay up in one of their four or five mansions and drive the largest and most fuel in-efficient vehicles they can find. We experience all this while we drive to the theater in our Nissan Sentras to see their movies and make them even wealthier. Now if you do not believe what I am saying, ask yourself this question, why is it every time a solution is found to energy supply or pollution control, some “ecological watchdog” (aka Hollywood) shoots it down? It is because no one is in there batting for the little guy anymore.

I believe the solution is simple and it is clear. Americans need to quit buying the package that has been sold to us by what we will call “interest groups”. We have allowed slick marketing to label us as white, black, democrat, republican, liberal and conservative. If Americans will all get on the same page, we will get much more done. The Boston tea party, if you remember your grammar school history, was not enacted by a political group, it was triggered by true Americans who got tired of the tyranny of taxation without representation. Now the lie says “we have representation!” Do we really? I will pose this question to you. If you went to work everyday and at the end of two weeks told your boss that the reason you got nothing done was “gridlock”, how long do you think you would have your job? Well, that is what we as American taxpayers are told every year at the end of the congressional sessions. No healthcare plan…gridlock, No Tax reform, gridlock, No energy plan, gridlock and on and on and on.

If you have ever seen a Disney movie that came out a few years ago called a Bug’s life, it told a very revealing and true story. In that film the lowly ants spent all their time working to provide a harvest for the locusts that came at the end of the season to claim the fruits of all of the ants’ work. At the end, the ants discover that if they unite they become more powerful than the locusts and end the tyranny of the locusts’ reign of terror.

The sub plot of the movie was that the locusts knew that if the ants ever united in cause, it would be the end of their party. The facts are this, we send millions upon millions of dollars to Washington every day and we are not protected. We are led around by the nose at the hands of Arab oil sheiks; we are given the crumbs from the tables of the captains of industry not only in this nation but foreign corporations as well. Lobby groups and special interest entourages are wined and dined at your and my expense. We are further divided when race cards are incited and religious causes are irritated and we are forced into corners of democrat and republican. It almost smacks of another confederate conflict, but this time without cessation. Neither Democrats nor Republicans pulled off the Boston Tea Party, it was AMERICANS, tired of being exploited at the hands of a corrupt system.

The government we are under is not the government that is described in our constitution;

of the people, by the people, for the people. What we get at the end of the day is simply the word, “gridlock”. If all a politician can offer his constituency is a string of double talk and the word gridlock, it should be a sign to the American people that he is no longer employable. We need to learn to say two words to our public servants if they do not perform…”You’re Fired!” It is what they would tell us on our jobs and politicians are not above correction or the law. There are millions of great Americans in this country who would lead this nation to greatness once again. They may not come from the right colors or the right Massachusetts bloodlines, but they are great Americans who could make a difference. It is time we stop listening to political agitators like Sharpton, Limbaugh, Jackson, and O’reilly. These guys are making millions winding you and I up like tin toys. They set brother against brother and further divide a people that desperately need to unite. I have looked at the pathetic careers of each of these men and have determined that outside of making a fortune for themselves, they have changed absolutely nothing. It is time we stop electing politicians based upon their promises and begin to place them and hold them to accountability. It is time to stop accepting crumbs from our government and begin to demand better. Our national Anthem speaks of a murderous battle with heavy cost that led to a precious freedom for its people, not a select “lucky” few. Not everyone will work their way into wealth and affluent lifestyles, but everyone should have the opportunity for a good life in this beautiful land. In the movie “the high cost of low prices”, the story of Wal-Mart’s double standard of ethics, they tell the story of how this retailing giant comes into a small town and systematically closes down local business from the mom and pop pet store to the locally owned sporting goods shop. The heart and spirit of the entrepreneur in America has been crushed by our government’s protection of big corporations to do what they want while they let the little guy die a slow painful death. And the sad fact is that it is all about an “elected official” who gave in to big business to better his own view in life. All those little people he sacrificed for his new yacht are the same people who believed his “promises” and voted for a lie.

I have spent the last three years watching governmental response on all levels to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. We are still supplying food and supplies to those whose lives have been forever destroyed because there was nobody there for them. I have spoken to missionaries and first responders to the tragic tidal wave in Sri Lanka and they confirm that the United States response to that catastrophic event was much faster and more orderly than its response to Katrina. It becomes kind of hard to interact with as many people in areas like the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans as I do and know in my heart that virtually nothing has been done that will someday end their suffering. I was asked to attend roundtable meetings in Washington DC in October of 2006. On the agenda were meetings with HUD, Department of Labor, and lastly, a member of the White House Staff. While there my wife and I were sickened at the site of a building directly across the street from the white house. The building was majestic in stature. Its colonial design and meticulous manicuring was almost obscene after where we had come from and what we had lived through. The building was the international headquarters of the American Red Cross. All that grandeur and the only thing they could come up with for our people in New Orleans were stale sandwiches and Gatorade. They were on the scene for a couple of weeks and then they were gone, leaving what they called a case management staff.. The interesting thing about the American Red Cross is that they are the official responder for any catastrophe in this country. The sad thing is that there are much smaller organizations that are much more effective. About a week after Katrina, one of the area bigwigs for the ACR showed up and called all of the churches together for an “organizational meeting”. The insane thing was that most of the churches there were up, running, and serving people already. The better number of us were wondering the same thing. “Where have you been???” Again, The American Red Cross is in the pocket of the U.S. Federal Government and is funded as such. One of the recent ACR chiefs left his office in shame after allegations of massive embezzlement surfaced and were subsequently proven. The books showed he was pulling down over 651,000 dollars a year salary. Oddly, the head of the Salvation Army makes 13,000 dollars a year plus a conservative housing. The Salvation Army made a much bigger difference supplying hot meals and other provisions to those devastated by Katrina. The Salvation Army made their parish headquarters on our church campus and I know they were with us for over six months. The following head of the ACR, a married man with kids, resigned after he was nabbed having an affair with another employee. It’s a short trip for corruption from Capitol Hill into the pockets of so-called charities.

Yes, we definitely need another tea party. In 1773, a group of AMERICAN colonists had simply had enough. They became angry about supporting foreign concerns and lining the pockets of the wealthy while they struggled along with their principles. So, John Hancock, the Sons of Liberty, and others decided that they would not take things into their own hands, they would take things into the hands of the reason they were here, to know a freedom that does not find tyranny acceptable.

We must learn to throw things overboard when they become rotten. We must throw this divisive political party system overboard. We must stop voting our party and begin voting our heart. We must root out our corrupt Electoral College system and reform it to a fair plan that accurately reflects the voice of the people. We must throw political corruption overboard. We must make our elected officials accountable, morally and fiscally. Just as we have a job review, so should they live by a report card and if they are ineffective, they are replaced. We must throw yellow journalism overboard. The news media has its own Hippocratic Oath. It is bound to give an honest and accurate assessment of the facts, not according to opinion or preference, but according to an ethic that protects our freedom of speech from becoming freedom of lying. You and I have both heard news stories that are so slanted to one direction or another they seem more like an infomercial than a news report. We spend much too much time giving free air time to pet political and social views while the hard new goes untold. I will cite the coverage of O.J. Simpson’s trial.

No one deserves that much coverage for murdering. But, it sells advertising. The same goes for Scott Peterson. You know what? I hope you still love me after I say this, but it is really none of our business. Scott Peterson has his appointment in Hell should he fail to repent, but that is really not our concern. He is captured and off the streets now let’s move on. But the News Media, really the entertainment media, travels even further from any kind of morality by not reporting what it sees, but what it wants you to see. Freedom of speech and freedom of the press was given by our forefathers that we would know the truth, not someone’s opinion or version of the truth. We must protect our amendments by the core values of which they were written, not by a revisionist’s view of how he sees them. We must throw the political dynasty mentality overboard. We do not always need a Kennedy, or a Bush, or a Clinton in public office. If you added up the combined significant accomplishments of all of the people by this name currently serving in office, you could not fill up a soup can. George Herbert Bush is not George Walker Bush. Bill Clinton is not Hillary Clinton, and Edward Kennedy is certainly no John Kennedy. Still, we feel comfortable with name recognition and some of us somehow secretly believe these names are magic chants that will solve our problems. We must place movers and shakers in office that will serve the people…period. We do not need presidents that sleep with aides. We do not need a president who’s daddy was the president, and we do not need a president because he is white, black, Christian, man, or woman. We need a leader of the people, by the people, for the people. The good news about the Boston tea party is that it was the spark for the American Revolution. There’s nothing wrong with another American Revolution. The better news was that three years later a new nation was born.

And brother there’s nothing wrong with that kind of new.

10 ¶ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places]. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints––” (Eph 6:10-18 NKJV)

Ever had something going on that was so intense, so all consuming, so devastating, that you couldn’t get a grip long enough to figure out what to do…so you act from emotion rather than reacting from anointing. I have a daughter who just graduated from college last winter from McNeese State University in Lake Charles. She is pursuing a career in Psychology and she is well on her way. In the meantime, she has taken a position working for a Southwest Louisiana 911 call center. She is the person who keeps her cool in the situation where someone calls in with an emergency and has lost theirs. I really admire her because this is something I have never really excelled in on an earthly plane. I have, in the past, been the one who has given “nail biting” a professional status, and has the patent on sweaty palms. It has only been in the past fifteen or so years that I have found the wonderful peace that passes all understanding. The rest that comes from calling on the heavenly 911. In my thirty years of salvation of Christ, I have spent the first half learning to trust in God. The second half, I have enjoyed practicing every day the ongoing gift of walking with Him and trusting His provision. I love the passage of scripture from Ephesians chapter six, referenced above. Paul writes to the church at Ephesus that we have been given an armor; a WHOLE armor. But if you notice in that armor, every piece of it is meant to protect us from the assault of Satan. There is a belt which is truth. There is a breastplate which is righteousness; a pair of shoes called peace, and a helmet of salvation. The only piece of offensive gear in the whole thing is one “Sword of the Spirit…which is the Word of God. Through all of this we are told repeatedly throughout these verses that we are to stand. We are not to thrash about, not stress and strive…stand. I believe that God gives us clear direction that our efforts are at best a weak attempt at remedying something that he has already designed a path of escape for. Still we will try to “fix” a situation. We will attempt to bring our own wisdom into the arena and really cause a street brawl with the demons of hell. All he called us to do was to believe. He called us to gear up. And he called us to stand. Next time a situation in your life seems like its falling apart. Call the heavenly 911. Call on Jesus. Don’t just do something….stand there.

Majoring on Minors

John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone who doesn’t follow us casting out demons in your name; and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow us.”
But Jesus said, “Don’t forbid him, for there is no one who will do a mighty work in my name, and be able quickly to speak evil of me. For whoever is not against us is on our side. For whoever will give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you are Christ‘s, most certainly I tell you, he will in no way lose his reward.

Mark 9:38-41

Everyone communicates with God in a different way. Some of us pray in the shower. Some of us talk to him buried in the midst of drive time traffic on the way to work. Some need the peace and solace of a prayer closet. I am one who is kind of like the trusty Indian scout; ear to the ground, listening for the rumble of horses in the distance. Basically what I just told you is that I have to be on the verge of being run over to sometimes accurately hear God. I don’t think I am alone in the world though.

Recently, I found myself in the heat of a discussion that amounted to “theological theorist rhetoric”. Still, as I stood mostly silent throughout the whole ordeal, I could feel the spirit of God deep within me sounding a trumpet of retreat. It was as he was warning me not to engage in this vain argument. He was instructing me to stay out of this pile-on of pompousness that would amount to naught. Of course, as these kinds of discourses progress, that super computer above our shoulders continues to work trying to pump out THE zinger that will end the whole thing. In a roundtable “discussion” everyone wants to be the guy who delivers the “Nagasaki Knockout” punch that ends the whole thing. Still, every time the discussion lulled enough for me to get a word in edgewise, I would somehow miss the beat of the argument and it would resume again without my verbal offering.

This, I realized later, amidst the carnage, was God sparing me. Mark 9 began to clang like the bells of St. Mark’s Square at Venice Italy. It was a deafening reminder that we all, in the midst of our baloney, have some good purpose; some unique gift that we bring to the kingdom. Not all will always agree with us or the way we do what we do, but nevertheless, If we are not against the work of the Gospel, through some miracle of God, we are for Him.

Majoring on minors was the old adage that kept coming to mind. It is the art of making mountains out of molehills and getting a doctorates in the acquired skill. How many times do we waste the valuable time we have been given just proving our point. Our call and purpose here on earth is not to prove our point, but to continually point to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Vain arguments will come and they will go. Do not be surprised when you are drawn, unintentionally, into them only to find yourself stumbling over your tongue and your brain totally void of the slick comebacks and quip colloquialisms that you had only minutes before the brawl began. It is the still, small, voice of a loving God….sparing you.

Righteousness, Peace, and Joy in the Holy Ghost!

“For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel [with] those seven; they [are] the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.” (Zec 4:10 AV)

Every time I begin something new, I tend to manifest in some new level of impatience that the Lord ultimately has to work out of me. At a tender young age of 57, God is still letting patience have its perfect work in me. Oh for the joy of lessons learned young. Here in Zechariah, the prophet speaks of a plummet, also called a plumb…us boys down the bayou called a “plumb bob”. My dad was a home builder and developer who did a lot of his own surveying. Every time he began a new development, he would break out the scope and the tripod and begin to shoot grades for streets and drainage. To level his scope…he had a plummet that hung down from the center of the tripod….”a plumb bob”. That made sure that he was level on his end to see what was not on the other end. In our lives, we must realize that before there were houses there were streets. And before there were streets, there was raw land. And to put streets on the raw land…there had to be a guy with a plumb bob. I believe that Zechariah was speaking to those who needed a word. They needed to hear that the “plumb bob was in the hands of Zerubbabel, who could get the job done!

This blogging thing is new to me. I have tried it once before and deserted it like rats on a sinking ship.

I am good at Facebook. I can dress up a Myspace, but for some unknown reason, the whole blogging thing is a real task for me to wrap my head around. But its a new thing. God has placed many a plumb bob in my hand over the course of my life and have mastered the situations and I trust that with His help, this will be no exception. Heck, just last week, I was stressing over our outdated website. The poor guy who had been doing it for us was now living in another city, going to another church, but he faithfully continued to maintain our site to the best of his ability. But being the impatient man I tend to be, I wanted to be able to update more often and add pictures and videos. So I set out on the task of obtaining a web building software that was “seeker friendly”. I found it and now www.joyfellowshipchurch.com is smokin’ again.

The point to this whole wordy dissertation is this: If God has shown you the mountain; if He has placed the plumb bob in your hand; If your heart stays right and your hand stays steady, don’t worry how small it appears to be or how impossible the chances seem…get ready cause a city’s about to show up on that mountain. Stay faithful. Stay encouraged. Stay the course.

Love Ya’ll
